Attendance Alerts should not treat “Unmarked” as “Absent”

Our Attendance Alerts are configured to notify parents when a student is Absent (Unexplained). However, we’re seeing these alerts trigger while a student’s attendance is still Unmarked.

In our workflow, Unmarked is a distinct attendance state. It means the teacher has not yet completed attendance, it does not mean the student is absent. Orah already provides reminders for teachers to complete roll call, so there is a clear distinction between an Unmarked roll and a confirmed Absent status.

We would like Attendance Alerts to evaluate the student’s final attendance status instead of treating Unmarked as an absence.

Platform
Desktop
What problem would this new feature help your school solve?
It would prevent parents and staff from receiving absence notifications before attendance has been finalized, reducing confusion and unnecessary follow-up.
How often does this problem happen?
Daily
Describe the impact on your school if this problem remains unsolved?
Parents receive absence notifications for students who have not actually been marked absent. Staff then need to manually correct attendance and explain why the alert was sent, creating unnecessary administrative work and reducing confidence in the attendance alert system.
